PIERRE HENRY – THE ART OF SOUNDS
Pierre Henry is one of the most influential artists in electronic music influencing composers such like Stockhausen with his approach to sound design and production. He worked alongside the godfather of musique concrete, Pierre Schaeffer, at the Club d’Essai studio between 1949-1958 before setting up the Apsone-Cabasse Studio with Jean Baronnet. Not limiting himself to just ‘found sounds’ Henry delved into the worlds of film soundtracks and even rock (his 1967 classic ‘Psyche Rock‘ was borrowed from heavily for the Futurama theme tune) this sometime populist approach to music appealing in particular to krautrock artists from Neu to Can to Kraftwerk. This film sees him still fascinated with the sounds of the natural world and in his element exploring new compositions.
