ITAL TEK – GOLDEN
My love of Ital Tek is well ingrained having fallen in deep amour with the Midnight Colour LP, and subsequently awed by his versatility with follow up Nebula Dance which merged that glimmering synth sound with warped footwork flavours. ‘Golden’ was a Christmas freebie from Tek (Alan Myson,) which sounds like a perfect convergence of both those albums – gloriously bright pads, expansive and coercive glacial stabs and classic electro hits replete with increasingly distorted 808s. Glorious stuff. Made my Christmas, although my Nan wasn’t too keen. Didn’t have the warm cheery festiveness of Dean Martin apparently.
JAMES FERRARO – WORLD STAR
Hello all. Well, what a time that was eh? New Year’s and all that. I came to the conclusion that it’s a damn sight easier running a blog when you have nothing else to do as opposed to having to work, hence the lack of bloggitivity towards the back end of 2013. Anyway, ATOT is back on track. Probably a few less posts than previously but still, I will be updating daily so, y’know, keep eyes peeled and all that.
I will stop banging on now and instead focus on this woozy new soul-influenced track from experimental and sometime genius New York producer James Ferraro. Not gonna pretend to be a fan of all his work (I often think the media fawning is way in excess of the actual quality of much of his material,) but this looped and warped piece caught my ear and is difficult to shift. Unnervingly slick.
SINGLE POINT EDGE – OBJECT DETECTION
Very little info on the futurist techno producer Single Point Edge but I can give you this insight, they are good. This is the second track from the mysterious artist’s eponymous debut album was released by Dutch label Rwina on Oct 28 (I’ve been away OK?) Rwina is usually famed for it’s dubstep releases but this is a welcome investigation into the dusty corners of techno and what a revelation it is too – sounding like a bonus track from Juju and Jordash’s ‘Techno Primitivism‘ album from a couple of years ago. Love the crystallised strings and the vocal snippets lifting it above the gloom.

SOLOMON GREY – FIRECHILD (ALLMOSTT REMIX)
London’s Black Butter Records launched the career of pop-junglists Rudimental and their roster is trouser-strainingly sublime, featuring as it does the likes of Woz, My Nu Leng and the sublime nu soul stylings of Joel Compass. Basically, they have an ear for quality. Two of their acts combine here to devastating effect with new boy Allmostt (whose track ‘Monsoon,’ I reviewed here a month or so ago,) remixing Oxford duo Solomon Grey. It’s a slick combo too, Allmostt dropping old school dubstep sounds over a snaking percussive line and pared-back drum programming while the sparingly-used vocal echoes and floats over everything.
POLIÇA – CHAIN MY NAME (PERERA ELSEWHERE REMIX)
A collaboration formed in the very heavens themselves, this remix from the Berlin-based Londoner takes the pop-stomping original, one of many standouts from the new POLIÇA album Shulamith, and absolutely warps the hell out of it, creating a woozy, downbeat animal as moody as it is stunning. A massively wild departure from the original and a remix in the truest sense of the word, you wonder who would ever listen to ‘Chain My Name’ and come out with this at the end of it. Perera Elsewhere is the answer to that question and she is really marking herself out as an incredible producer and artist in her own right at the moment.
Elsewhere’s album Everlast is out on Oct 28 while Shulamith is out now.
RICARDO DONOSO – THE OLD STRAIGHT TRACK
Well this is a big steaming pile of gorgeousness – a fresh track taken from Donoso’s forthcoming LP two parter. First part, As Iron Sharpens Iron, is released on Oct 28 with part two, One Verse Sharpens Another following close behind on Nov 18. I posted ‘The Sphinx‘ a couple of weeks ago and ‘The Old Straight Track’ is another soupçon of minimal, chilled techno which treads similar ground to Donato Dozzy in many ways. Floaty, playful and hypnotic this is moonlight music.
HANNAH WANTS & CHRIS LORENZO – KNEADIN’
Another bass-heavy monster out of Claude VonStroke’s Dirtybird stable from Brummie pair Watts & Lorenzo (last seen getting ‘Dappy‘ on Food Music.) This was smashing festivals across the summer and now finally gets a full release. Birmingham has always a massive speed garage scene and this track has definitely got that aesthetic in spades – the garagey vocal, tempo and, of course that warped bassline pressure. Absolute killer, shame it’s such a tiny sample. Radio rip here if you want more.
