SUN RA ARKESTRA – SPACE IS THE PLACE (1974)

1974 curio by the seminal avant-jazz group whose influence is still being felt today through the work of people like Thundercat and, of course, Flying Lotus. Ra’s shamanistic meanderings and philosophies might now look like the ramblings of a LSD fuelled loon but really, this is a time where artists took artistic risks and followed a singular vision. Or maybe it was the drugs. Either way, this captures perfectly a time and place in history, and the music is sublime.
